At the end of every month I like wrap up my favorite moments, posts, Instagrams, and meals while giving a behind the scenes look at some of the moments that otherwise wouldn’t make the blog.
Overall, March was just as boring and stationary as I thought it would be. My plan was to get a lot of work done, plan my Italy trip, and organize my life before my year of travel begins. Because most of my time was spent inside in front of a computer or behind an espresso bar, this recap will not be nearly as interesting as the ones that will follow. Hey, not every month in the life a traveler can be non-stop excitement!

Highlights
Securing more and more freelance work
Making the decision to quit my job and go freelance was the best thing I’ve ever done, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t terrifying or that it was easy. The past few months have seen me sending out pitch after pitch and scouring jobs on Elance only to hear nothing in return. This month I finally had some luck with Elance and had a couple of publications reach out to me for paid writing work. Now that felt good!
Getting the all clear on my health
Last month I mentioned that I was in the midst a health scare. Well, after months of waiting and rescheduling appointments, I finally got to see the doctor and got the all clear. “It’s not cancer, everything looks normal” are now my favorite 6 words in the English language. Thank you to everyone who wished me well and thank you to Planned Parenthood and women’s health grants in the state of Kentucky for providing low cost (or free) health care services to the insured. They are, literally, lifesavers.
Enjoying Louisville spring
We had a few peeks of spring here in Louisville this month and I took advantage of them all with a few al fresco meals and more frozen yogurt than is healthy. Spring is my favorite season. Seasonal depression is a real thing and sunny days and warmer temps make me much happier, not to mention way more productive. Here’s to a beautiful April with lots of patio beers and hikes during my last month in the US!
Lowlights
This month was luckily free of anything that could be considered a real lowlight. We did get a foot of snow, and if you’ve ever experienced snow in the south as a northerner you know how much of a shit show that turns into. It was more annoying than anything, though, as a few days later it was 60 and everything melted.

Meal of the Month
I could probably eat dumplings every single day for the rest of my life and not get sick of them. Because of this dim sum is one of my favorite meals, especially when they push around the carts and I can instantly pick and eat what I want. I was really thrilled when my friend told me about a great dim sum place in Louisville. We went and checked it out for Sunday brunch and gorged on turnip cakes, siu mai, and pork buns.
Books I Read
What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding: A Memoir By Kristin Newman This book had me laughing, nodding along in agreement, and crying that I’d end up old and alone all at the same time. Kristin Newman is a sitcom writer who spent her 20s and 30s traveling the world in between TV seasons. Her candidness about travel and sex was refreshing and a lot of her tales had me literally LOLing.
Upcoming Travel Plans
I am currently on my way to Jordan! I’ll be spending 8 days making my way around the country and because I had to book some last minute flights to and from JFK, I’m spending a couple of days in NYC on my way home.
Then, on April 28, I’m leaving for summer in Europe! I can’t believe this has snuck up on me so quickly but I’m finally sorting out my plans and am so excited to soon be back in my favorite country.
