This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Bar Harbor, Maine. In 2010, when I lived in Philadelphia, my friend Alicia and I took a road trip from New York to Maine. It was, like a lot of things I do, a bit haphazard (I passed through 7 states in one day!), but a lot of fun. Bar Harbor is a lovely town on the coast and we spent our days exploring Acadia National Park, drinking local craft beers, and devouring an inhumane amount of seafood. I’d only recently bought my DSLR and this was my first trip with the new camera. It was exciting to be capturing the beauty of Maine with something better than my crappy point and shoot that I’d dropped about fifteen times.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Tokyo, Japan. On my last morning in Tokyo I went to check out one last neighborhood before my flight. The Asakusa neighborhood is home to two important religious buildings, Senso-ji, a Buddhist temple, and Asakusa Shrine, a Shinto shrine. The shrine and temple share the same grounds, an example how religions coexist peacefully in Japan. I arrived to Asakusa early and enjoyed roaming around with only a few others, taking in the beauty while incense burned.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Busan, South Korea. I really enjoyed weekend getaways to Busan during my time in Korea. The seaside southern city had a completely different vibe than Seoul. Besides a much more laid back attitude, Busan is also the home of some serious great seafood. This seashell barbecue meal from my first trip south remains one of my favorite dining experience in Korea. I mean, how can you beat eating fresh clams on a cliff overlooking the sea?

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Semarapura, Bali. I made a short stop in Semarapura while driving from Candidasa to Ubud when I visited Bali in 2011. It was a perfect stop to grab a quick bite for lunch and to take a quick wander around the grounds of Klungkung Palace. The palace was originally built at the end of the 17th century during which the Klungkung kingdom was considered the most powerful of Bali’s nine kingdoms. Much of the palace was destroyed by the Dutch in the early twentieth century, but you are still able to tour the grounds and remins todays.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Florence, Italy. In 2009 I spent nearly a week in Florence in between au pair jobs. On my last day I took the bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo to see a view of the city. I arrived before midday just as the sun was shining between the legs of the copy of the David. I took this photo with a crappy point and shoot before I cared about photography, but it is still one of my favorite photos that I’ve taken. It is even hanging on the wall in my bedroom back in the States.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Mureung Valley in Korea’s Gangwon province. Mureung Valley lies between the mountains of Dutasan and Cheongoksan. They valley is home to many waterfalls, streams, rock formations, and a beautiful Buddhist Temple. I visited in the fall of 2011 on a trip to Samcheok and Mureung Valley was a lovely place to hike in what I consider to be Korea’s most beautiful province. Oh, and pro tip, don’t drink makgeolli by the gallon the night before you hike. And if you do drink a lot of makgeolli the night before, don’t venture off the paths in search of a quicker way back to a food source.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Louisville, Kentucky. My parents moved to Louisville a little over 3 years ago so it has become my base when I go back to the United States. I was less than thrilled when my parents decided to move south, but over the years Louisville has started to win me over. The ‘most southern city in the north and most northern city in the south’ has a fantastic restaurant scene, is home to the most exciting two minutes in sports, and is a big proponent if small and independent businesses. And for a small city, it is a pretty nice skyline!

This week’s Snapshot Sunday comes from Seoul. Each November the city of Seoul hosts a lantern festival along the banks of Cheonggyecheon stream downtown. Different years have different themes and when I visited in 2012 the festival focused on the lives of Koreans in the past. The festival is incredibly crowded, like most in the country, but beautiful.

This week’s Snapshot Sunday is from a trip I took to Prague in 2009. Prague was an appealing weekend destination for me mostly because I wanted to see this wall dedicated to John Lennon in my quest to visit all the Beatles landmarks around the world. During Communist rule, students would write their grievances on this wall and today it represents ideals like love and peace. The wall is ever-changing, with Beatles lyrics and graffiti inspired by John Lennon being sprayed on in layers. Underneath it all lays a long covered image of John himself. I had a great time photographing different parts of the wall and would love to go back and see how it has changed in the past nearly 5 years.

I’ve decided to bring back the Snapshot Sunday series where I feature a photo (or two or three) every week that hasn’t previously hit the blog.

This week’s selections come from a trip I took with my school to Jeju Island, South Korea last December. This was my second trip to Jeju and although we were visiting what is touted as “Korea’s Hawaii” in the winter, the weather was spectacular, letting us take in a lot of Jeju’s natural beauty.
