Friday Favorites: January 10, 2014
I’ve decided to start a new series this year called Friday Favorites. So original. I know. I do a lot of reading on the Internet (mostly in an attempt to procrastinate doing anything productive with my time) and I figured I should share some of what I find and like. This weekly series will feature some blog posts, articles, videos, and whatever else that I found over the past week and enjoyed.
Here we go! Friday Favorites #1!

I’m a sucker for a good resolutions post and loved Ashley’s, A Big 2014: Goals for 2014. Ashley and I both did a lot of traveling in Southeast Asia this year and came out of it with similar takeaways and goals for the new year. Mainly that we need some sort of stability. And careers.

Caroline’s post On Becoming a Writer and Following Dreams was both inspiring and helpful. I’m still not sure if freelance writing is the career for me (see above re: stability), but I know that it will play some roll in my life.

Jessica and I both left Korea in February after 2 years of teaching, traveled around Southeast Asia for a awhile, and then moved to Europe in the fall. It should be no surprise then that I could really relate to her Lessons I’ve Learned About Life and Travel in 2013 post.

All I’ve thought about this week is the sunshine and ocean. I blame it on the January-in-London-it-never-stops-raining-and-gets-dark-at-4:30pm blues. So I’ve basically spent the last few days dreaming about the G Adventures Sailing Greece Santorini to Santorini Trip and plotting ways I could sell various belongings (and organs) to pay for it. I think this would make a nice graduation present…

Detroit has been all over the news as of late, but Why I Bought A House in Detroit for $500 is one of the best articles I’ve read. It doesn’t focus on the ruins and it doesn’t get all over the top with hope because some white guy opened a hipster restaurant. Okay, the writer is a white guy who moved to Detroit but he doesn’t harbor any thoughts that he came here to singlehandedly save the city and its people. At least not anymore.

In food news, Anthony Bourdain is Planning a Massive NYC Food Market in the style of Singaporean hawker center. I fully support this endeavor, Tony.

If you’re planning a trip to England anytime soon, check out Tom’s collaborative post where to find Fantastic Fish and Chips From All Around England. This link may be slightly self serving because I contributed to the post. But now you have double the incentive to click if you want to see what I chose.

And finally, if you want to read something that is both hilarious and horrifying, read 4 Things I Learned From The Worst Online Dating Profile Ever. Society is doomed.
