Hearing from people who've gone and reading about it since, I am still unable to decide if I missed out or not. Parts of it sound really fun, but I can't imagine enjoying it for more than an hour or so. Either way, my chance has passed, so I guess I'll never know. I think Mud Fest is one of those things that if you go, it's cool but if you miss it it's not something to be hugely disappointed about. I found the crowds a bit overwhelming (should have anticipated this, obviously) and didn't really want to stand in line... also I got slammed by rain after I was showered, at the K-Pop concert... it wasn't my favorite but it was certainly unique!
